Florida Sunshine State Sport Shooting Championships

Lawnsteel Play

Dates for 2010 have been set, they are: Saturday May 1st and Sunday May 2nd.

Normal match format will be utilized and hard copy scoring will be done. Association member scores will be archived. The actual schedule has not been approved by Florida sport shooting association at this date. ILSA expects our schedule to be accepted without change since it is the same as has been used in all previous state games. Best of skill to everyone.

              The end of jacketed bullets?

Did that headline make you cringe or smile contentedly? A careful survey has found but a single member and only a few guests that regularly employ projectiles not cast. Even more interesting is the high percentage of members casting their own. Several shooters had used commercially marketed cast bullets in a few different shooting disciplines before they became Lawnsteel Players. While this writer may be a slight bit prejudiced about cast preformance, my opinion can't possibly effect the higher level of proficiency that is obvious at the last state games and regular play. Many of the home casters have said they have realized accuracy improvements, due to their skill at producing high quality cast bullets. Generally there has been an increase in the usage of 38 caliber, due largely to the effectiveness of the new Devistator bullet being run by all the top shooters. Semi-extensive testing has brought a couple of bullet designs to be used as the standard for toppling Lawnsteel targets. Across the board it is noted there is a drop in cartridge costs. Almost without exception, Lawnsteel people will share information about anything that is advantageous in Lawnsteel play.

State games official, Mary Watkins, stopped in to have a look see at
Lawnsteel. She once thought we might all be just a little nuts.
Lawnsteel will make you more than just a little knuts.
Debbie was the only female competitor in the 2009 Lawnsteel games. It's probably hard to tell that she was happy with her bronze medal award.  Debbie successfully defended her Bronze medal win in last years state games.
Clarence Swimm and Roy Kramer congratulate each other after a great sudden death shootout. This picture was taken before these two competitors tied again and put on an even better show to top out the production large caliber class with both players shooting slow moving 38 caliber ammunition.
These two players humbled themselves for the sake of the game and some staged  pictures used for publicity, generally they show open hostility towards each other.
